The Mount Gambier and District Baseball League has received a boost on the eve of finals.

The league has been handed grant of $12,000 under Round 7 of the Government’s Stronger Communities Program.

Mount Gambier and District Baseball League president Chris Rundle said the grant has been welcomed with open arms and will help the sport and its participants in a number of ways.

“This grant will enable the Mount Gambier and District Baseball League to upgrade their clubrooms including disabled toilet, fire exits and security doors,” he said.

“Being awarded a Federal Government Stronger Communities grant will enable the MGDBL to upgrade our facility to a level whereby we can accommodate visiting groups to the region, therefore showcasing our magnificent venue as well as adding an additional income stream for the MGDBL.

“The grant will also ensure people with a disability are catered for far better than they have been previously by way of a greatly improved bathroom facility.”

Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin said Round 7 of the program is aimed at funding projects that deliver social and economic benefits and form part of the Coalition Government’s continuing commitment to strengthen local communities across Australia.

“Local organisations such as sporting clubs are so important to the fabric of regional communities.,” he said.

“The Stronger Communities Program is about strengthening those local organisations to ensure they have they remain vibrant and sustainable into the future.

“We know this is needed more than ever after the challenges of the last two years, so I am pleased the Federal Government is continuing to support local organisations and their communities.”
