Aunique fashion parade in Millicent received a $3000 grant from Wattle Range Council.
The inaugural Millicent MET Wearable Art Competition was recently held at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre as a fundraiser for the Imagine Millicent community arts group.
The fashion parade carried an admission price of $25-per-head and was well supported and attended.
It was one of eight activities to receive seed funding from the council in 2022/23 and was detailed in its recently-released annual report.
The highest amount of $5000 in 2022/23 went to the South East Field and Game Association to assist with the costs of staging the Sporting Clays Australia English Sporting National Championships at Burrungule.
Since the 2023/24 financial year began on July 1, council has given seed funding to Millicent community radio station 5THE FM to stage the successful Rock the Rails outdoors concert.
Meanwhile, council also provided grants of up to $5000 to recurring events including the Pines Enduro, Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival, Beachport New Year’s Eve fireworks and Geltwood Craft Festival.
The council’s Local Event Support Grants Program provides financial support for events, performances and festivals.
It aims to encourage and support community groups to host their own events within Wattle Range Council, helping to grow the diverse range of events on offer to both residents and visitors.
Wattle Range Council also provided a range of in-kind services to local events throughout the year including discounted hall hire, event bins, event site and area preparation, printing, traffic management and road closures as well as loans of equipment (the grandstand, parklet, disability kit, outdoor games, signage).
