Funds generated by the sale of surplus seaside public land should be applied to maintenance of the building and other facilities of the Southend Community Club.
This is the opinion of the Southend Progress Association as expressed by its representatives Sallie Chambers and Scott Altschwager at a recent meeting of Wattle Range Council.
According to the pair, a precedent was set a few years ago when the proceeds of the sale of unmade road reserves to neighbouring farmers were applied to upgrading the premises of the Hatherleigh Sport and Recreation Centre at the Hatherleigh Oval.
New change-rooms were constructed and the licensed premises were extended.
During their 10-minute presentation, Ms Chambers and Mr Altschwager said the Southend Community Club was well used by locals and tourists alike but some of its infrastructure was ageing and needed attention.
The council is going through the due process of bringing a parcel of land at Southend to market.
