Furner crash claims life

AHatherleigh woman was killed in a car crash at Furner on the weekend.

Just before 2.45pm on Sunday 6 August emergency services were called to Conmurra Road after a Toyota sedan rolled.

Sadly, the driver and sole occupant, an 85-year-old Hatherleigh woman, died at the scene.

Conmurra Road was closed for several hours while Major Crash officers examined the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or captured it on dash-cam footage is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au – you can remain anonymous.

The woman’s death was the 73rd life lost on SA roads this year, compared to 45 at the same time last year.

Meanwhile, a teenage speeder was caught at Cadgee last week.

About 1pm last Tuesday police were conducting speed detection duties on the Riddoch Highway when they clocked a car travelling at 148kph in a 110kph zone.

Police were able to stop the car and speak to the driver, an 18-year-old Murray Bridge man, and checks revealed he was on his P2 licence.

He was issued with an expiation notice and lost his licence on the spot for six months.

In other police news, a drink driver was pulled over for using her phone and recorded a blood alcohol reading more than four times the legal limit at Lucindale.

About 4.40pm on Thursday police pulled over a driver spotted using her mobile phone while driving on Four Mile Road, Lucindale.

The 41-year-old Limestone Coast woman then recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.201.

She was reported for drink driving and using her mobile phone while driving and issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence.

She will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
