Girls Day Out banks support funds

The Millicent Cancer Support Group members and friends dug deep and raised thousands of dollars on Saturday afternoon.

They had not been able to have their annual Girls Day Out fundraiser in recent years on account of COVID and all 125 tickets for the 2022 event at the Somerset Hotel were sold within three days.

It had a Derby Day theme to coincide with the Spring racing carnival in Melbourne and so black-and-white outfits were worn by the majority at the two-course luncheon.

Guest speaker and Millicent Hospital director of nursing/executive officer Michelle de Wit explained the latest fundraising project of the Millicent Cancer Support Group.

It aims to raise $8000 for a bed and settee for the refurbished palliative care/family care room at Millicent and District Hospital.

The makeover of the room is set to be completed in the coming months.

There were Derby Day sweeps and a raffle while the charity auction was conducted by local real estate agent Fiona Telfer.

There was strong bidding for a range of donated items including gift baskets, two tickets to the Redelva Luncheon at the 2023 Millicent Cup, a voucher for The Barn, near Mount Gambier, a Tanya Hunter painting called Almond Blossom Bride and a quilt made by Trish Douglas.
