Goal-fest punishes champs

Border Districts flexed their muscles on the reigning champions on Saturday by pumping through 31 goals against the Lucindale Roos.

The Eagles put their foot to the floor after quarter-time to boost their percentage by four percent.

Borders also took over the top spot on the ladder with their win and with Mundulla losing to Naracoorte.

Dylan Schoenmakers had a big day out as he put through 13 goals for the afternoon.

Dylan moved eleven goals ahead of Mundulla’s James Hinge on the league goal-kicking table.

The 155-point loss by Lucindale would be one of the biggest losses a reigning premier has suffered.

The loss of key players has hit Lucindale hard this season and they will need to turn it around quickly if they are to have any chance at making the finals.

Mackenzie Bower with four goals and Isaac Hewson with three goals helped get the Eagles across the line.

Dylan Schoenmakers, Isaac Hewson and Jameson Bower were named the best Eagles players.

Lucindale had two main goal kickers in the loss with Josh Trembath kicking three majors and Hamish Gordon kicking two.

Bradley Agnew, Lachie Jones and Daniel McCarthy were the Roos’ better players.

Keith fought off a determined Kybybolite outfit on Saturday to record a nail-biting one-point victory.

The Tigers led at every change until the last quarter where they could not get a goal to seal the victory.

The Tigers kicked 0-4 to Keith’s 2-0 in the fourth quarter as the Crows recorded their 5th victory of the season.

Blake Read put in a good performance for the Crows to kick four goals.

Lewis Hender bagged two goals of his own in the victory.

Billy Wade, Blake Read and Seamus McMurray were the Crows’ best players.

Billy Laurie kicked three goals to try and get the Tigers across the line in the contest.

Thomas Taheny kicked two goals to help out.

Joseph Schultz, Billy Laurie and James Bittner were the Tigers’ better players.

Naracoorte inflicted Mundulla’s first loss of the season when the Demons had a thrilling one-point victory on Saturday.

The Demons trailed by 14 points at halftime but turned it around by the end of the game to get across the line.

Victories like this one can be the difference between finishing top three or not and the demons will look to use this win as a catalyst for the rest of the season.

Zac Peake kicked four goals and Sam Bates added two goals as they were the two major goal-kickers for the Demons.

Keenan Jacobs, Darcy McKenny and Josh Gregg were the Demon’s best players.

James Hinge kicked three goals in a trying effort for Mundulla and Jack Guy added two goals.

Jake McGrice, Harry Kuchel and Jacob Grosser were the Tigers’ best players.

Padthaway grounded out a strong 28-point win against Kingston on the weekend as they looked to stay in touch with the top five teams.

The Lions used the breeze to its full effect in the first quarter to open up a comfortable lead and held it for the rest of the game.

Anytime Kingston tried to get back into the game, the Lions found an answer.

Tobin Cox was strong in front of the goals with five goals for the Lions.

Jordan Bell added two goals in the victory.

Tobin Cox, Jordan Bell and Darcy Boyanton were Padthaway’s best players.

Jarryd Hill proved to be Kingston’s main goal-kicking forward with two goals of his own.

Jack Harding, Ben Warner and Ben Rogers were the Saints’ best players.

Bordertown recorded their first victory of the season when they pulled away in the fourth quarter to win by 23 points.

The game was tight right up until three-quarter time when the scores were level at the final change.

The Roosters found their best football in the fourth quarter to kick 3-6 to 0-1 and run out winners.

It would have been a big sigh of relief for the Rooster’s coaching staff as they had lost a few close games this  season.

Thomas Whittlesea kicked four goals in the victory to lead from the front for Bordertown.

Jacob Eats kicked two goals to help Whittlesea get the Roosters home.

Jacob Eats, Tyson Hoffmann and Jed Jarrett were the Rooster’s best players.

The Eagles had two main goal kickers in Joshua Currie and Sam Gartner who both kicked two goals each.

Bradley Bryant, Tom Williams and Jordan Galpin were the Eagle’s best players.

Mundulla v Border Districts

Round seven this weekend and with the league being close and tight there will be some great match-ups on Saturday.

The match of the round is a big top-of-the-table clash between Mundulla and Border Districts.

Mundulla were flying along until their one-point loss on the weekend to Naracoorte.

Now the Tigers face a very confident outfit in Border Districts who are hitting their straps.

The Tigers will need a plan to stop the supply to Dylan Schoenmakers who is in some blistering form.

Mundulla will need the Mosey boys back in the lineup after they missed the game last Saturday.

Dylan and Nick add so much skill to the Tigers line up and they were missed on Saturday.

Jake McGrice will have a good game again as he rarely has a quiet one.

The Tigers will need to supply him with help if they are to get across the line.

James Hinge and Daniel Noll will need to fire if the Tigers are to kick a winning score.

Borders have many players in great form and look settled.

Isaac Hewson, Zac Richards, Jameson Bower and Fraser Adams are in great form as well.

Mark Quinn must be loving all the help he is getting this year and it is making his job a lot easier.

This game is going to be a must-watch game and a big crowd will be there.

I think Borders will be primed and ready and get the win by a couple of goals.

Keith hosts Kingston and both teams are likely to feature in the finals this year if things keep going the way they are.

Naracoorte v Padthaway

Naracoorte is at home to Padthaway and the Lions are somewhat of a bogey team for the Demons.

Padthaway beat Naracoorte both times they met last year and the Lions will be confident they can do it again.

Tobin Cox is coming off a game-winning five goals against the Saints and is in great form.

Darcy Boyanton, Mitchell Minns and Tom Moyle-Read are starting to get a run of form going to help try and push the Lions up the ladder.

Jordan Bell also has added some class to the lineup.

Naracoorte also is coming off a great win as they got the points against Mundulla.

Matt Willson and Rory Taggert are at the head of the list for opposition coaches when planning comes into how to defeat the Demons.

Workhorse Keenan Jacobs belts into packs and gets clearances to open up the outside game.

Joshua Gregg is also dangerous if you give him enough space to use his left foot to execute searing passes.

Nath Davey is also another player who is ready to have a big game and use his great kicking to full effect.

Padthaway will love their chances in this game and they do match up pretty well against Naracoorte, but I think Naracoorte will have too much firepower with Zac Peake and Rory Taggert kicking multiple goals in a strong victory.

Keith v Kingston

Keith had a very close victory against the Tigers last weekend and Coach Lewis Hender would be pleased with how things are travelling.

Kingston on the other hand went down to Padthaway and the injury gods are starting to take hold of the team much like last year.

Kingston is likely to be without Key forwards James Siviour and Todd Lockwood due to injuries sustained in the past two games.

Tom Rogers and William Watts also finished the game on the bench and neither is expected to be in the lineup on Saturday.

Kingston is going to have to rely on winning the midfield on Saturday if they are to have any chance.

Kingston will need to get creative in the backline as well as the Crows have arguably the best forward set-up in the league.

Billy Wade, Lewis Hender, Blake Read and George Johnson cause headaches for any opposition coach.

The Saints’ defence led by Ben Rogers and Orestis Gambranis will need to be switched on right from the start of the game to cover them.

The Crows will be red-hot favourites at home and should get the job done despite the Saints throwing everything they have at them.

Penola v Lucindale

Penola is at home to Lucindale this weekend and the loser of this game is almost finished for the season already.

The Eagles have been much better since round one as they have won two of their past four games.

Penola also has been pretty good at home this season and they might start slightly favourites because of it.

The Roos need their best lineup possible to challenge the Eagles.

Jayden Eldridge, Bradley Bryant, Jordan Galpin and Scott Merrett will need a lot of the ball for Penola to win.

Lucindale needs big games from Josh Trembath, Riley Milne, Henry Tregoweth and Hamish Gordon if they are to get a win on the road.

The Eagles look like the more solid team at this point and might get up if the Roos’ best lineup does not show up.

Kybybolite v Bordertown

Kybybolite hosts Bordertown and this should be a good game.

The Tigers look like they are finding some better form as the season goes along and if they had a bit of luck, they might have got across the line on the weekend.

Bordertown on the other hand finally cracked it for a victory last weekend.

Coach Thomas Whittlesea must have been feeling like it would never happen for the Roosters after all the close losses to start the season.

The Roosters will have gained a lot of confidence from that win and will be looking to make it two in a row against the Tigers.
