Good books find new homes

Thousands of books found new homes as part of the Mount Gambier Rotary Book Fair on the weekend.

About 2000 people visited the fair held at Mount Gambier’s City Hall, which featured approximately 12,000 books available for purchase.

Mount Gambier Rotary Club member Maurie Watson said the event was well supported by local businesses, as well as by the community members who flocked through the doors.

“Saturday was a very busy day and late morning on Sunday was good, just after lunch people started pittering away,” he said.

“We are very happy with the sales and the people that attended and hope to do same next year.

“Special thanks must go to those people who donated all the books.”

Mr Watson said the funds raised through the event were donated to worthy causes.

“The (Rotary) book fair is one of the major activities we do each year,” he said.

“Portions of the proceeds go to Rotary mental health programs and also local health programs.

“The support we get from the local community is outstanding,

“We also gave away a lot of free books for children.”
