Grant paves way for club upgrade

Member for Barker Tony Pasin visited Penola recently to acknowledge the $4200 grant received by the Penola Bowling Club from the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities program.

The grant was used to purchase pavers for the surrounds of the bowling green.

All the preparation and laying of the pavers was done by club volunteers and club member Ken Batt said it only took just over a week to complete the project.

The grass had to be dug out and then the ground poisoned.

The dirt filling for the base was kindly donated by Gambier Earth Movers of Penola.

Mr Batt said it has made the surrounds safer and aesthetically appealing.

Mr Pasin was pleased with the end result of the project.

“This was round eight of the program, however, it has now finished, and unfortunately now there is nothing available for small grants,” he said.
