Green light granted for Millicent Show

The green light has been given to the 2021 Millicent Show following a committee meeting of the Millicent Show Society on Monday night.

Millicent’s leading event on the social calendar will go ahead on schedule in just over two months’ time on November 5-7.

Onerous COVID protocols forced the cancellation of the Millicent Show in 2020 but all 11 committee members present on Monday night felt the COVID current requirements for such large-scale public events could be met this year.

COVID protocols have already been blamed for the cancellation of this year’s Penola Show and the Royal Adelaide Show but the Mount Gambier Show Society has just announced it will proceed with next month’s Spring Show.

The Millicent Show Society now expects most of the regular attractions will be back in 2021 including the yard dogs, horses, motorbikes, sideshow alley, shearing and fireworks.

A special and returning guest will be Chris Sperou, the 82-year-old stunt pilot.

A committee spokesperson said all relevant COVID measures will be enforced such as the wearing of masks indoors at the pavilions.

She said the preparation of the annual Show Book can now proceed.

“We will be encouraging the online purchase of tickets rather than buying them at the gate,” the spokesperson said.

“We have had to cancel some of the indoor sections in the hall this year due to space requirements.

“The hall has other indoor sections and trade displays and there are social distancing rules.”

She said details will be published in the Show Book.

The spokesperson said the committee was waiting to see what other COVID measures would be in force in November.
