Hall committee expands

Additional local residents have joined the Rendelsham Hall Advisory Committee after a successful recruiting drive.

The nominations of Graeme “Rocky” Smith and Cherie Foran have been endorsed by Wattle Range Council which owns the 99-year-old facility.

Both expressed an interest in community activities on their nomination forms.

They join fellow community representatives Eddie Hann (presiding member), Garth Huppatz, Lyn Brooks and Randall Stiles along with ward councillors Sharon Cox and Richard Cassidy.

The May council meeting also endorsed the staff recommendation to make minor changes to the operations of the committee.

Its former name of “Rendelsham Community Hall Management Committee” was dropped and the number of community members reduced from eight to six.

The purpose of the committee was changed to the following: “to provide advice to Council about the care, protection, and improvement of the Rendelsham Community Hall.”

Meanwhile, planning is continuing for the centenary celebrations of the Rendelsham Community Hall.

An open forum was recently held at this venue and was arranged by the Rendelsham Sports and Progress Association.

The hundredth anniversary of the opening of the hall occurs in May of next year and the association is keen to gather photographs and other items of history.
