Beachport resident Richard Cassidy has been appointed to the Millicent Health Advisory Council.
The professional lobster fisherman and businessman was elected to Wattle Range Council as a Kintore ward representative just over a year ago.
Council appointed Cr Cassidy as its Millicent HAC representative at its December monthly meeting.
He will fill the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Councillor Moira Neagle.
As well as appointing Cr Cassidy, council also approved a $15,000 budget variation as well as formally acknowledged her service to the council.
Meanwhile, nominations for her Corcoran ward vacancy on Wattle Range Council will open on January 11 and will be received until noon on January 25.
State Electoral Commissioner Mick Sherry has been appointed to the Returning officer’s position following the decision of Cr Neagle to leave after completing 12 months of her four-year term.
His statement has been published in the Government Gazette.
“Due to the resignation of a member of the council, a supplementary election will be necessary to fill the vacancy of Councillor for Corcoran Ward,” Mr Sherry said.
“You are entitled to vote in the election if you are enrolled on the state electoral roll for the Wattle Range Council area.
“If you have recently turned 18 or changed your residential or postal address, you must complete an electoral enrolment form available online at www.ecsa.sa.gov.au
“If you are not eligible to enrol on the state electoral roll you may still be entitled to enrol to vote if you own or occupy a property in the council area.
“The election will be conducted entirely by post with the return of ballot material to reach the Returning Officer no later than 12noon on polling day March 12.”
These dates indicate Wattle Range Councill will be without a councillor for more than three months.
However, this time frame would be reduced if only one candidate nominated and a postal ballot was not necessary.
Supplementary elections are occasionally uncontested with Cr John Drew (Corcoran Ward, 2013) and Cr Chris Brodie (Riddoch Ward, 2021) in this category.
