Naracoorte Lucindale Council won the regional category for their ‘Naracoorte Lucindale Wellbeing Program’ at the 2022 Minister for Health and Wellbeing’s Excellence in Public Health Awards.

The program was established in 2021 in partnership with Wellbeing SA and focuses on initiatives that use exercise, food and community engagement to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of residents.

The target audiences for the program are children, young people, families, older people and culturally and linguistically diverse communities and current events and initiatives include Yoga in the Hall, The Good Life Program and the Naracoorte Community Walking Group.

The council received $3000 to further support the development of the Naracoorte Lucindale Wellbeing Program in their local area.

Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton said the awards highlighted council’s hard work and helped them build on programs that make a real difference to their community.

“Councils make significant contributions to public health through a range of unique initiatives, and we want to encourage more ways for residents to connect and live happier and healthier lives,” Minister Picton said.

“I would like to congratulate each council recognised for their outstanding efforts to improve their local community’s health and wellbeing.”

Minister for Local Government Geoff Brock said local government make a positive impact into the everyday health and wellbeing of South Australians.

“I congratulate and thank all the council nominees and award winners,” Minister Brock said.

“These awards are a credit to council for its ongoing commitment to their communities.”

Local Government Association chief executive Clinton Jury commended this year’s award recipients on the exceptional work they were doing to promote health and wellbeing in their communities.

“Local government plays a crucial role in the delivery of health and wellbeing services to South Australia’s communities – both regional and metro – and it is wonderful to see our councils recognised for their ongoing efforts,” Mr Jury said.
