Hobitz cement top ladder spot

It was an action-packed weekend full of netball at Olympic Park in wet and wintry conditions.

Some players had the luck of the draw and enjoyed the warmth and dry conditions of Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre while others braved the rainy and cold conditions of the typical Mount Gambier winter weather.

The junior game of the day was the Under 19 match-up between Intruders and Hobitz.

Each player put their bodies on the lines and from the sidelines you would have considered the game to be on an even level while at the end of the first quarter, Hobitz was leading 11-3.

Hobitz had strength throughout all areas of court, with the scoring duo of Hayley De Nys (GS) and Tayla Doody (GA) and midcourt offence of Felicity Kelly, Amy Papageorgios and Ava Gollan unstoppable.

Amity Sheedy was one of the players who stood out on the court for Intruders, playing GA and C and excelling in both.

Sheedy kept up the talk in the goal circle and was able to guide her side to score goals in the match.

Intruders continued to fight throughout the match up but fell short against a tough Hobitz, with a final score of 52-15.

Hobitz sits top of the ladder followed behind by Zodiacs, Saints and Intruders.

The A2 matchup between Zodiacs and Vicis Red shaped up as a tough game.

The competition was fierce from the first whistle but with excellent sportsmanship shown on the court.

Vicis were tough on Zodiacs, especially with their defence in the goals led by Brianna Fuller and Mia Sturges.

The match up in defence in Intruders’ goal circle was able to help the Vicis goalers in Mellissa Norman and Amber Richardson, both scoring well.

Vicis and Zodiacs both had impressive mid court players and at times it seemed the score was bouncing back and forth, however Vicis Red took the win 38-22.

Vicis Red sits second on the ladder, with Hobitz first, Saints third and Intruders and Vicis Green placing 4th and 5th.
