The application of hot mix to paths has been a “hot topic” at Robe.
It has prompted Robe District Mayor Alison Nunan to take the extraordinary step of writing a 1100-word explanation of her council’s actions in her December monthly report.
“Elected Members and Robe District Council have been receiving many emails regarding the decision to apply hot mix to the coastal and foreshore paths,” began Mayor Nunan.
She then detailed how her council came to its unanimous decision and included a listing of the seven meetings throughout 2021 when the paths’ sealing matter was discussed.
“Our job as elected members is to balance community opinion both for and against, with our obligations, consider our financial constraints then make a decision that is well founded,” Mayor Nunan said.
“Our councillors have found the balance between needs, standards, expectations, the range of views in the community and prudent use of our finite financial resources.
“We feel that we have made the right decision at this time and are proud of having made safety and accessibility a priority for all of our community.”
