An interim committee now has charge of the defunct Western Border Football League which dissolved last week at its final annual general meeting.
The delegates from the remaining six clubs met a hotel in Mount Gambier to set up a new body.
At present, it is known as the Limestone Coast Football and Netball League.
This name is similar to the soccer competition in this region which is known as the Limestone Coast Football Association.
The interim committee arising from the Western Border has representation from the SANFL and the former Western Border executive committee.
It has been charged with a number of tasks such as recommending a name, drafting a new constitution and devising suitable year levels and other requirements for the underage competitions.
League insiders anticipate the interim committee will present their findings to a meeting of club delegates next month.
A Limestone Coast Football Netball League presence has been established on a social media scores website.
According to this website, it has recommended there be five mixed gender competitions in the Under 12 age bracket.
Furthermore, the website states the sole Under 14 competitions will also be mixed gender and be played Saturdays.
The four other competitions (Under 16, Under 18, B Grade and A Grade) would be for males only and played on Saturdays.
All these arrangements are subject to ratification.
The Western Border Football League was formed with 12 clubs in 1964.
A netball competition was added in the early 1980s.
Over the past near-60 years, six of its foundation clubs decided to join other leagues.
The SANFL is keen for the re-badged Western Border to expand to eight clubs in 2025 with the addition of one club each from the neighbouring Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara and Mid South East leagues.
SANFL officialdom have signalled they are prepared to fracture these two leagues, if necessary, by forcing clubs to join the revamped competition.
