Internship program continues

The Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill is again providing paid vacation employment for a tertiary student.

Commencing in January, the fixed six-week internship is limited to a student who is enrolled in a tertiary degree in engineering.

“Our Vacation Program is designed to provide the right experience, exposure and education to further develop tertiary learning and support gaining technical experience,” stated the company.

“As a vacation student you will join our engineering team and have the opportunity to work across the business and gain exposure to world-class manufacturing and reliability excellence.

“We want to provide you with a solid foundation, and we believe that you’ll enjoy the variety of work, interaction and the opportunities to contribute and make a difference.”

For decades, the company awarded a generous annual scholarship to a local secondary school graduate or university student.

The recipient of the Millicent Mill scholarship would receive an annual living allowance for up to four years as well as paid summer vacation employment in a relevant sphere at the plant.

KCA made the scholarships available to tertiary students in the various of disciplines of engineering and accountancy.

A number of KCA Millicent Mill Scholarship recipients such as Ryan Turner and Georgina Smibert, formerly of Millicent, continued to work for the company after graduation.

For others, the KCA Millicent Mill Scholarship was a launching pad for their entry into the wider business world.

When the scholarship began in the 1970s, it was known as the “Apcel Scholarship” and was named after the then name of the Millicent Mill.

Over the years, the company has also regularly made scholarships available to offspring of their workers.

For example, KCA has sponsored such student exchanges as those arranged by the American Field Service organisation.
