The Intruders A Grade side is all set to take on another big year of Mount Gambier Association Netball under the guidance of a familiar face.
Cath Dycer (pictured) will remain at the helm of the club’s flagship team and hopes to lead Intruders back to the top after winning the title in 2019.
Despite being on the losing side of last year’s grand final, Dycer remained highly regarded around the league and is the reigning association co-coach of the year.
Having enjoyed recent success, she said it was a simple decision to return and is keen on bringing back some silverware.
“It was pretty easy to say yes to because Intruders is a close-knit, family orientated club,” Dycer said.
“It is always good to be part of positive relationships around the club, so it is an honour to be a leading it.
“We are looking forward to a big season ahead and hopefully we can take out some silverware which is always important for club growth.
“We have picked up some new players which will offer our senior team a lot of depth and new combinations which is really exciting.”
Dycer said training was in full swing with the new faces settling in well.
“A lot of our teams have kicked off their training campaigns which is always exciting and good to see,” she said.
“They have been cohesively working together which is a big positive.
“We are putting our plans, new combinations and infrastructure in place.”
Dycer started her netball journey at Glencoe before a brief hiatus since joining Intruders where she has been involved for a decade and has become one of the key players on the court.
But sadly her movements may exclusively take place on the sidelines after suffering a significant injury last year.
“I unfortunately suffered an injury last year and am sidelined for the next 12 months after doing my ACL which is disappointing,” Dycer said.
“But everything seems to be on track.
“Some good and bad news was that one of our senior players also did their ACL, so we are both doing our rehab and recovery at the same time.”
With the countdown on towards round 1, Dycer said she could feel the anticipation building around the club.
“We are really looking forward to the first round, which is of course the rematch of last year’s Grand Final,” she said.
“We cannot wait to hit the court with all the other teams and the club has 10 teams across the age groups, so we are really looking forward to April 23.”
