Junior cricketers seek selection

Leading junior cricketers across the Limestone Coast will look to impress in the 2020 Burdon and Kerr Shields which begin this weekend.

The two pre-season competitions are aimed to give promising young cricketers from Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Tatiara and Millicent the opportunity to showcase their skills for selection in the South East representative sides at the Country Cup.

Both the Under 14’s Kerr Shield and the Under 16’s Burdon Shield will commence on Sunday with games played throughout the region and Mount Gambier enjoys strong representation being the only association with two teams in both grades.

An all Mount Gambier clash between Green and Gold will open the Kerr Shield at Frew Park, while Marist Park hosts Mount Gambier Green and Naracoorte in the Burdon Shield as the Gold team travels to Millicent.

The Kerr Shield will be contested with 40 overs per side matches, while the Burdon Shield is played in the full 50 over one-day format.
