Juniors take to field as cricket action resumes

Under 12 Sims Shield
Gambier Centrals v North Sportsmans

On a warm night for cricket Gambier Centrals captain Blake Brooks won the toss and chose to bat first against North Gambier.

Openers Blake Lock and Henry Milne got the innings off to a strong start with a good partnership highlighted by positive running between the wickets.

The partnership ended when Milne was caught by wicket keeper Oliver Liddle off the bowling of Beau Whelan.

The next period of the innings was dominated by batsmen Lock, Jack Flier and Kade Rainey with all three regularly hitting the boundary and running strongly between the wickets.

The last 10 overs of Centrals’ innings North managed to restrict the run scoring through some good bowling by Carson Bradley and Oliver Liddle.

Good batting from Brooks, Levi Gardiner, Ollie Flier and Kobe Rainey meant that Centrals did not lose any further wickets, finishing the innings 1/117.

The North innings kicked off with good bowling from Lock dismissing both openers after bowling Mitchell then having Barry caught by Ollie Flier.

Jack Flier then had Bradley caught by Milne and North were in trouble at 4/14 when Henry Milne ran out Liddle.

The partnership between Whelan and Jimmy Crozier steadied the innings until Whelan was bowled by Kobe Rainey for 1 run.

Issac Thami finished off the North innings by bowling Kit Rogers and Adhip Daljith to bowl North out for 33, completing a strong win for Gambier Centrals to a start off the second half of the season.

Under 14 Mixed Juniors
Mount Burr v South Gambier

The T20 Under 14 game between Mount Burr and South Gambier got under way in hot conditions on Saturday morning at the Mount Burr oval.

Mount Burr won the toss and captain Harry Baker sent in South to bat first.

Naga Wright opened the bowling and his miserly figures of 0/6 off his three overs kept South honest.

The opening pair batted with maturity, both unbeaten with Ethan Hunt 18no and Axel Page 15no setting up the innings.

Their retirement brought big hitting Jagger Geary to the crease and he quickly went to work scoring 31no including 4 fours and a six.

The remaining South batters added to the score, Kobe Maxwell contributed 17no.

At the completion of the innings South had set a dominating score of 1-137.

Mount Burr opener Harry Baker put on a great score to start with 23no including a four and two big sixes.

Some tight bowling and a continual stream of wickets dented any hope of the Burr chasing down the total.

Mason Rogers finished with excellent figures of 1/0 off his two overs.

Other batters of note were Patrick McGrath 12no and Kobe Bromley 10no.

Mount Burr batted out their overs and finished with a respectable 4/89.

The big total in the first innings gave South a comfortable win by 48 runs.

Under 17 O’Donoghue Shield
South Gambier v East Gambier

East Gambier came out strong with the bat from the very start, batting very solidly against South’s lethal opening bowlers.

Runs came late in the innings for East with 21 from Jack Lawrence and Riley Clarke scoring 37 runs against South’s tail end, scoring a total of 125.

A slow start from South with a few quick wickets putting pressure on the middle order to step up and make runs.

It was Jed Sims who stepped up and made a solid 21 runs with Jace Maxwell making 12 runs right at the end, but they could not quite get over the line with South falling 16 runs short on the last over.
