Katnook gas production declines by 58%

Total gas production in the last financial year at the unmanned Katnook gas plant near Penola was 58% below the prior year.

The 2021/22 Beach Energy annual report noted the company sold 0.7 PJ of gas.

The report stated production was impacted by natural field decline and scheduled plant maintenance.

“The Katnook gas plant remained operational for longer than anticipated but is expected to be shut-in during the 2022/23 financial year as volumes decline below the minimum required turndown rate,” stated the report.

“The plant will be kept available for production in the event of future development or exploration success.”

Meanwhile, Beach Energy has also reported that its Dombey 3D seismic acquisition in the Limestone Coast region was completed.

“The survey covers 165 square kilometres in PEL 494 and captures the Dombey field and surrounding exploration prospects,” the report said.

“This newly acquired seismic aims to assess opportunities for new gas supply through the Katnook gas plant.

“Seismic processing is under way and interpretation of data to inform next steps is expected to be completed in the 2022/23 financial year.”
