KONA EV sparks interest

Hyundai has taken its boldest small SUV in the KONA and electrified it into a dynamic design of the future.

Enhancing the already futuristic body styling and unique front and rear end, the all-new KONA electric is ready to take the region by storm.

Barry Maney Hyundai recently handed over the keys to the all-new electric SUV, which is available in KONA Electric and KONA Electric Premium trim, with the entry level variant able to be ‘specced up’ to an extended range 150kW motor over the standard range 99kW model, both driven by a single speed reduction gear front wheel driveline.

While the same exterior styling remains at the KONA’s core, enhancements such as a more aerodynamic front bar with futuristic grille styling and LED rear brake lights and reflectors help distinguish the electric version when hitting the street along with EV-model specific alloy wheels.

Colour wise, the exterior of the KONA is available in Atlas White and Mirage Green as standard with Denim Blue, Electric Grey, Abyss Black and Ultimate Red paintwork available at an additional charge, while the Kona Electric Premium is also available in Meta Blue.

Hopping into the cabin of the all-new KONA Electric also teleports you into the future, with dual 12.3” wide displays providing total driver control for everything from driving and regenerative modes, driver attention alerts and speed sign recognition as well as all your infotainment needs.

Driving a fully electric vehicle around town and heading out on the open road is always a great experience with just how quiet they drive and the KONA Electric is no exception.

Silently motoring along the city streets and highways is impressive with plenty of power delivered smoothly and precisely to the wheels without excessive noise entering the cabin, enabling occupants to listen to high-quality music or converse without hassle.

The Hyundai KONA electric also takes performance to the next level, with the small SUV able to travel up to 505km from a single charge without compromising power, making the pure electric vehicle perfect for cruising around town with the support of the manufacturers regenerative braking system – iPedal – as well as easily tackling the open road.

The KONA’s iPedal feature may take drivers a little getting use at its maximum strength while transitioning across from a regular petrol or diesel powered vehicle, but once familiar with how the regenerative braking system works it makes your daily drive much easier, cruising around with one foot controlling the accelerator while the system takes care of the braking for you.

The iPedal system is fully adjustable to suit your preferred driving style, so if you prefer to do the braking yourself you absolutely can, but if you prefer to have the system generate power through heavier braking itself you can ‘max it out’ as you wish.

There is also a sense of familiarity when driving the KONA, with intuition taking over when adjusting the vehicle’s dual zone climate control to switching radio stations, everything just feels natural.

Ensuring rear passengers are able to keep devices charged on lengthy journeys in the KONA electric are a host of USB-C charge ports and an internal vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology for powering devices up to 250V/16A, while an optional exterior V2L adapter can be purchased for an additional cost.

Safety is also a heavy focus for the small SUV, with Hyundai’s SmartSense technology including a suite of features such as smart cruise control, driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance, high beam assistance, lane following and keeping assistance, blind spot collision avoidance, rear cross traffic assistance and even more.

The all-new Kona Electric is now on display at Barry Maney Hyundai, so if you’re in the market for a stylish, sporty and silent drive, pop in and speak to Nathan at the 43 Percy Street dealership or call 8721 3412 to experience it for yourself or find out more information.
