Kona. Imagined to be bold

Hyundai’s all-new KONA is making an impact on Mount Gambier roads, with it’s bold, futuristic design ‘imagined’ for first impressions – and a solid first impression it has made!

The ground-up redesigned KONA boasts a distinctive and futuristic style which was imagined from its electric variant, radiating a tech-led design, inside and out.

At the head of the vehicle a thin LED strip graces the width of the Kona above the traditional beam lighting which is neatly housed in stylish unit, while matte-black finished cladding sweeps the side profile of the vehicle to complement the vehicle’s geometric lines along both the front and rear doors to tie in the vehicle’s wider platform.

Rounding out the rear of the vehicle is a matching LED strip light across the entirety of the hatch which sweeps around to the sides of the Kona.

All-new ‘minimalistic’ badging also graces the vehicle’s exterior, helping tie in the futuristic styling.

Stylish 18-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in high-quality Kumho tyres to help keep the ample power to the ground, with this particular Hyundai Kona Premium powered by a the manufacturer’s Smartstream G2.0 Atkinson engine, driving power to the front wheels through an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).

The Mirage Green paintwork left a lasting impression and was a talking point on our drive around the region, pointing back to its uniqeness and further enhancing the ability for the Kona to stand out from the crowd alongside Atlas White, Abyss Black, Ecotronic Grey, Ultimate Red and Denim Blue colour options.

Hopping behind the wheel and tackling Mount Gambier’s key roadways leading into a busy festive season provided the perfect opportunity to put the new Hyundai Kona through it’s paces – especially with the added fun of highway roadworks – and it passed with flying colours.

The 2.0-litre petrol engine made zipping into breaks in the traffic a breeze, as well as having plenty of punch when hitting the open road.

The way the vehicle handles and the lightness and response of the steering is also to be commended, making entering and exiting tight spaces and parking in busy supermarket car parks a breeze with the aid of a host of sensors and a high-quality reverse camera.

Another nifty feature of the Kona Premium is the SUV’s 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, which also doubles as a ‘rear view’ camera when indicating to help with blind spot viewing.

Despite being in the ‘small SUV’ class, there is no shortage of storage and occupant space inside the cabin.

With the front seat positioned nicely for a reasonably tall pair of front occupants there is still ample leg room in the back and an impressive amount of rear head room for taller passengers, while the front of the Kona is also very spacious.

A host of USB-C charging ports are available up front as well as a wireless charging pad, two rear USB-C ports and even a 180W 12V plug for those devices that need a solid whack of juice to get the charge rates up.

A high-quality eight-speaker BOSE premium audio system is standard in the Kona Premium, with the 12.3” multimedia unit including satellite navigation with Bluelink live traffic, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as multi-bluetooth connectivity, while a dual zone climate control system is included across the entire Kona range.

Adding to the premium features are heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel, mood lighting, 10-way power drivers seat satellite navigation, smart power tailgate and leather interior just to mention a few items from the lengthy list of additions.

Pre-paid servicing options are also available to all new-car buyers from three to five years, ensuring services are on time and hassle-free.

The Hyundai Kona Premium is hands-down, without a doubt a big car in a small package.

A unique and stylish design, high-quality and comfortable, tech-packed interior and plenty of power to boot, the small SUV is a ball of fun on wheels.

For those wanting the Premium vehicle with extra pizazz, buyers are able to enhance the vehicle further with the addition of an N Line package, which adds body coloured cladding, N Line bumpers, skid plates, side skirts and rear wing, exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels, chrome exhaust tips, leather and Alcantara interior highlights as wheel as active red air vent and seat highlights and dark metal interior trim highlights – while a couple of N Line specific colour options are also available.
