Labor backs PATS motion

Member for MacKillop Nick McBride did not speak in the House of Assembly in support of a non-binding motion from fellow Independent Troy Bell which called on the State Government to increase the payments to regional residents under the Patient Assistance Transport Scheme.

Other regional MPs backed the motion during a debate last week which lasted almost 80 minutes.

The motion was “hi-jacked” and references to the higher payments removed after city-based Labor MP Lee Odenwalder successfully moved an alternative and called for a review.

The Labor Party used its majority in the House of Assembly to back the motion.

Hansard records Mr McBride was absent for this vote which was carried 20 to 15. In his online summary for the week, Mr McBride said he had met with the Health Minister Chris Picton, councils and the Limestone Coast Local Health Network to seek a review of the changes to Community Nursing in Lucindale, Tintinara and Coonalpyn.

Mr McBride also asked questions about the report into service delivery relating to the Naracoorte Hospital, possible funding for a Special Education facility in Naracoorte, the use of the IPAVE road testing vehicle and the fire resources sent to the Naracoorte fire on March 7.
