Ladies fight for crown

The Millicent Bowls Club held its Annual Handicap Singles Competition last Wednesday where a small field of eight ladies took part with all games being played over 21 ends.

After the preliminary rounds, only two players were left standing to fight in the Grand Final.

Ros Varcoe reached the big dance with a handicap of four shots, while Heather Carthew was her opponent with a handicap of six shots.

After four ends of the decider a thriller was on the cards with both players all square on 10 shots each.

By the 11th end Carthew held a small lead of three shots with the score at 17 to 14 to be in the box seat.

But eventually the pressure proved too much for Varcoe as Carthew went on to win the next seven of the eight ends which completed her path to the 2021/22 Ladies’ Handicap title.
