Lake management talk

Possible changes to the future management of Lake George and Lake Bonney and other coastal lakes has attracted the interest of Wattle Range Council.

The council has decided to invite a spokesperson from the South East Coastal Lakes Project Team/Department for Environment and Water Protected Area Management to address a meeting.

It wants the delegation to present their findings from recent workshops in the South East to the council before they make any decisions on the future of Lake George, Lake Bonney and others that are in the Wattle Range Council area.

Councillor Sharon Cox put forward a successful motion at the June monthly council meeting to seek such a briefing.

Cr Cox was one of 70 participants at a recent workshop about the lakes staged at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.

“The future of all these bodies of water is extremely important to both our ratepayers and tourists,” Cr Cox said.
