Lakers score second CBL victory

Mount Gambier Lakers hosted the Colac Kookas at the Icehouse on Saturday for Round 3 of the South West division in the Country Basketball League.

The Kookas made their presence known in the opening half, maintaining pressure on the Lakers as a tough battle played out across the court with the Kookas up by two points at half time, 50-48.

A reinvigorated Lakers side took the court in the third quarter, scoring 14 points in four minutes and maintaining the lead on the scoreboard for the rest of the match.

Kyle Tipene was a force on the court scoring six three pointers, followed by Kane De Wit and Ben Young with three.

Seventeen-year-old Nelson Forbes established himself as a player to watch for the season as he secured 10 points to help Lakers to victory.

The team played well defensively under the ring and De Wit was impressed with the side’s 101-71 win.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will travel to Terang for Round 5 on October 29 to face the Tornadoes in a bid to keep their undefeated season running.
