Large field of ladies compete for ‘Olympic Trophy’

Once again a large field of 37 lady golfers took part in a Stroke round at the Mount Gambier Golf Club which was also the second part of the Olympic Trophy.

In spite of the weather being hot and windy, new player Jess Parsons blitzed the course registering an amazing nett 63, 10 under her handicap of 41.

The handicapper certainly will be reducing her handicap for her next round of golf.

Taking out second place for the day on a count-back Yvonne Shirley (29) played a consistent game recording 49/51, equating to a nett 71, two under her handicap.

The enthusiastic Janina Morrison (25) was unlucky to miss out on the count-back as she had an excellent front nine with 43 off the stick.

However, once again the difficult back nine took its toll with Morrison carding 53 off the stick. She recorded a nett71, playing two under her handicap.

There were nine players receiving a ball each for their good scores and they were Sue Coulter, Jane Lamont, Di O’Donnell, Libby Altschwager, Di Norman, Jan Shanahan, Kerry Pedlar, Kathy Ewer and Sue Downes.

The Pro Shot on the Par 3 eighth hole went to a great shot made by Coulter.

The Speciality Prizes for the second shot on the Par 3 10th hole went to Kerry Pedlar (A Grade) Coulter (B Grade) and Altschwager (C Grade).

A good turnout of ladies for last Saturday’s Stableford competition with 22 competing for the competition.

The course set-up was good, fairways with some run and greens at a medium pace.

Marie Douglas (26) had a good round to register 38 points to take out first place.

Douglas had 17 points on the front nine and 21 points on the back nine and her game included four three-point holes.

Turning the tables from last Wednesday Janina Morrison (24) took out second placing on another count-back from Shirley.

Morrison had a consistent game marking up 36 points with even splits on both front and back nines.

Helping to make this total Morrison had seven three point holes which secured her the second placing.

Shirley (28) lost on a count-back with 36 points also, but her best section was on the front nine with 21 points and having 15 points on the long back nine.

Her score included five three point holes.

Next week’s play will see the first round of the match play for the Handicap Match Play Championship plus a Stableford competition for the rest of the field.
