Learning extends beyond classroom

Students from a Millicent school recently interacted with residents from a local aged care facility.

Millicent North Primary School Year 2/3 teacher Linda Hamilton recently extended the invitation to her classroom and it was accepted by seven residents of Boneham Aged Care Services.

They were accompanied by leisure and lifestyle coordinator Deb Cavanagh and other support staff.

During the hour-long visit, there was a whole group session, afternoon tea and discussions in small groups.

Each student had a list of questions about life many years ago.

Resident Eric Dean proudly said his daughter Alison (now Mrs Pink) had been dux of Millicent North Primary School.

Ms Hamilton said it was time well spent for her students and the Boneham residents.

“I think that it’s nice for the community to know that at Millicent North Primary School our students’ learning is not just in the classroom,” Ms Hamilton said.

“We can learn a lot from involving ourselves in the wider community.

“We are bringing a little sunshine into the life of the Boneham residents.”
