Liberal Party to host public forum in city

The Liberal Party will hold a community forum at the East Gambier Football Club tonight.

Leader David Speirs will host the forum and will be joined by Regional Health Services Shadow Minister Penny Pratt and Regional Engagement Shadow Parliamentary Secretary and Member for MacKillop Nick McBride.

This follows the Liberal Party hosting two community forums over two weeks last month in Port MacDonnell and Mount Gambier to discuss the plebiscite into the amalgamation between Mount Gambier City and Grant District councils.

“As the new Leader of the South Australian Liberal Party, I am committed to making sure our party deeply engages with communities across the state, holds the Malinauskas Labor Government to account and presents a sensible and practical alternate government,” Mr Speirs said.

“Recently the Liberal Party hosted two community forums in the South East … these community forums were an important part of the South Australian Liberal Parliamentary team’s engagement regarding Labor’s rushed legislation to conduct a vote on a proposed council amalgamation between the City of Mount Gambier and Grant District Council.

“We came to the communities, we listened and we acted.

“Following feedback from your community the Liberal Parliamentary team put forward amendments to the legislation to ensure your voices were heard in parliament, unfortunately Labor blocked some of these important amendments.”

Mr Speirs said the forum would provide an opportunity to discuss further Labor’s legislation for a vote on a council merger, the new leadership approach of the South Australian Liberal Party, as well as regional health and regional engagement strategies.

The forum will run from 6.45pm to 7.45pm tonight.
