Millicent v Nangwarry
Millicent faced Nangwarry on Sunday in Hatherleigh in the final round of the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League.
Millicent got off to a solid start, having countless shots at goal but struggled to convert numerous times, scoring two goals and finishing with seven minor scores.
After the opening term Millicent held a 19 point lead.
In the second frame Millicent continued to drive up the lead as they added five goals to their total, and by half time their lead had blown out to 54 points.
Millicent kept the pressure on Nangwarry as they put six goals on the board in the third, while still leaving room for improvement with eight points as well.
Going into the final term Millicent held a 98 point lead.
Millicent finished strong, putting three goals on the board to help seal the win.
A bright spot for Nangwarry in the final quarter was they were able to score their first goal of the season.
Millicent’s Amber Chester was named as her side’s best with four goals to her name.
Millicent defeated Nangwarry 16.22 (118) to 1.1 (7).
Mundulla v South Gambier
Mundulla finished their home and away season on a high note with a big win over South Gambier in Mundulla.
Both sides started slow in the opening term as the Tigers got one goal to their name with two minor scores while the Dees came up short with three minor scores.
After the opening term the Tigers held a slim five point lead.
In the second term the Tigers began to pull away from the Dees as they put five goals on the board while holding South scoreless, with the Tigers’ in front by 36 at half time.
Mundulla continued to build onto their lead with another solid quarter, slotting two goals while South continued to struggle, only adding a point to their total.
Going into the final term the Tigers held a 47 point lead.
Mundulla finished strong, having their highest scoring quarter with six goals while South showed no signs of a comeback as they went scoreless again.
Mundulla’s Kelsey Batt, Melody Maddern and Kellsie Turner all had big games, each kicking four goals in the win.
Mundulla defeated South Gambier 14.4 (88) to 0.4 (4).
Kongorong v Penola
Penola came away with a big win in Hatherleigh as they took on Kongorong on Sunday.
The Eagles came out hot in the opening term as they got away to a solid lead early with four goals.
Kongorong could not get much going as they failed to score in the quarter, and after a big first term the Eagles held a 26 point lead.
The Eagles’ momentum came to a standstill as they struggled to get things going in the tough Hatherleigh wind with a scoreless second quarter.
The Hawks could not do much with the opportunity as they could only add a minor score to the board.
At half time the Eagles still held a comfortable 25 point lead.
Penola got things moving again in the third term as they got back to adding to their lead.
Scoring two goals in the term the Eagles continued to pull away from Kongorong who went scoreless.
In the final stanza Penola finished strong as they held the Hawks scoreless again and topped it off with two more goals.
Penola’s Caroline McGrath was a stand out in the win while Angela Broad kicked three goals. Penola defeated Kongorong 8.4 (52) to 0.1 (1).
North Gambier v Kybybolite
Kybybolite took on North Gambier on Sunday in the top of the table clash in Mundulla.
Both sides started slow as North could only manage two minor scores on the board while Kyby registered a major which got them out to a small four point lead after the first quarter.
In the second term North struggled and did not add anything else to their total.
Kyby, on the other hand, could have been up big heading into half time but let a few shots get away from them as they ended the quarter only adding three points to the board. At half time it was anyone’s game as Kyby held a seven point lead.
After the halftime break North finally got the ball rolling as they kicked two big goals which gave them the lead after a one point quarter from Kyby.
Heading into the final term North held a seven point lead.
In the final term Kyby found a new level as they held North scoreless.
With an opportunity to win the match Kyby took full advantage and kicked two goals to seal the thrilling victory.
Kybybolite’s Jedah Huf and Susannah Mabar were the two standouts in the win.
Kybybolite defeated North Gambier 3.7 (25) to 2.5 (17).
Under 16
In the under 16 competition South Gambier came away with their first win of the season, beating East Gambier by 17 points in Mundulla.
Hatherleigh took on Kongorong at home with the home side getting the 49 point win and finishing the home and away season undefeated.
North Gambier and Kybybolite faced off in Mundulla with North registering a 21 point victory over Kyby.
