Limestone Coast secures
SAPSASA tennis honour

The Limestone Coast was the toast of the state tennis world recently when a SAPSASA trophy was won in Adelaide recently.

A strong Mid South East team represented by 14 players showed their skills against the some of the best young talent in the state and prevailed.

Mid South East went on an unbeaten run to secure the Division 5 SAPSASA School Sports SA Tennis State Carnival title.

The team’s campaign started brilliantly with a crushing 17 sets to 1 victory over Murray Mallee.

Mid South East experienced some tougher fights against Northern Yorke and Northern/Lower South East 2, but won both them by a 10-8.

Port was prevailed by four sets before Mid South East stormed to an 18-love domination of Kangaroo Island, while Yorke Peninsula was disposed to the tune of 10 sets.

Playford/Para had been one of the few to keep up with Mid South East during the carnival and the pair faced off in a thrilling finale.

Both sides had equal strengths and weaknesses and performed some intoxicating rallies.

At the end of the battle nothing was separating the rivals after all 18 sets were shared evenly.

Eventually Mid South East was named winners by the slender one-game margin.

It was the perfect finish to a memorable campaign as Mid South East was crowned winners with 21 premiership points.

The tight battle for second could not be decided between Playford/Para and Port, while Lower South East Division 5 squad finished fourth made up of anyone who did not make the other SAPSASA teams.

The top Lower South East team fought in Division 2 and played some respectable tennis finishing third with wins over Adelaide North East, Salisbury East, Onkaparinga South, Mid North and Tee Tree Gully.
