Long-standing golfer voted into top job

Long-time member Ben Young was elected as the captain of the Millicent Golf Club at its recent annual general meeting.

He stepped up from the vice-captaincy and, in effect, swapped places with outgoing captain Stephen Coote.

As well as being a player, Young has been an invaluable contributor to the club over many years through his voluntary efforts in ground maintenance at the Mount Burr course.

Now retired, Young brought more than 46 years of service to the Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill to a close in 2021.

He opted to retire from the plant which had been his only workplace since he entered paid employment at the age of 16.

Raised on a dairy farm at Glencoe, Young has a high profile in sporting circles.

Among his interests are the Glencoe Football Club (past player), Mid South East Football League umpires panel (past director) and Glencoe Oval (groundsman).

In other AGM news, Mark Pilmore continues as club president.

Meanwhile, the annual Ambrose contest was successfully staged on Good Friday.

It has run for many years and the 2023 event attracted a field of 120 from across the region.
