After a seven-month hiatus racing returns to the iconic McNamara
Park Raceway this weekend.
None other than the 2020 Master of Mac Park title will be up for grabs and the event hosted by the Mount Gambier Motor Cycle Club will also be the second round of the SA State Championships.
Although only South Australian entries are permitted, around 90 riders will ensure large grids and great racing action will be witnessed across all classes.
The 1000cc Superbike field of 25 racing for the main event will be bolstered by former Moto 3 podium finisher, Australian Superbike (ASBK) regular and 2018 Master of Mac Park victor Arthur Sissis.
At the age of 25, Sissis has experienced many levels of the motorbike racing world with a third-place result at the 2012 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix before riding in speedway.
He will compete with many other fast riders including reigning winner William Strugnell and 2014 winner David Trotter.
Strugnell will hope to repeat his dominant performance last year, which led to a 10-second win over John Hunt.
A 21-rider field will be led by young guns Dallas Skeer and Declan Carberry in the 600cc Supersports category.
Other classes include 300cc Supersports, Sidecars, Juniors, Pre Modern and the fiercely competitive Limited class, while historic bikes will also feature on the program.
Spectators can expect a hit of nostalgia with bikes 1963 to 90 allowed to compete, while Stephen and David Jones will chase an eighth Sidecars crown in nine attempts.
The McNamara Park track has undergone a series of massive facility upgrades in recent years and will be ready for action after a long break.
The National Historic Championships was also scheduled to take place on the South East circuit, but it was cancelled due to COVID-19 and MGMCC looks to host the 2021 race.
An action-packed program is on offer with qualifying opening proceedings on Saturday morning before racing later on in afternoon and all-day Sunday, culminating with the feature races.
The event is also round two of the SA State Championships and spectators are allowed to attend and watch the on-track action.
