Mac Park mastered

Adelaide’s Arthur Sissis has done it again at Mac Park claiming the 2022 O.G. Roberts & Co Northcott Contracting Master of Mac Park crown for the fourth time.

Sissis was on point right from the outset when riders took to the pristine circuit for practice on Friday, blowing the track time off the clock and continuing to build momentum over the weekend, consistently bettering it every lap.

Riding his trusty Yamaha, Sissis did not put a foot wrong over the course of the weekend and it showed with a powerful performance on the McNamara Park circuit and breaking track records.

But the final race of the day did not go quite to plan, with a racing incident red flagging the race just some three laps in before racing resumed only for another incident to occur.

Once the session recommenced, Sissis was back on the throttle and eager to pull out a handy lead.

“It was a bit annoying that it got red flagged twice because it was a stop-start and I had momentum,” Sissis said.

The restart resulted in the 15-lap feature being reduced to 11 laps and a grid reshuffle.

Before the restart riders took to the pit area to reassess their bikes before hitting the track, but again it was Sissis who powered his Yamaha off the line and grabbed the lead into the first corner.

From there it was a case of ‘catch me if you can’, but no one was within seconds of Sissis and his experience showed.

“I have probably the most experience out of all the riders here and I have an Australian superbike,” Sissis said.

“I would have been upset if I didn’t win, really.”

Having been pushed by a fellow competitor all the way during the weekend made Sissis even more determined to secure hiss fourth Master of Mac Park title.

“Ted (Collins) has been going really well this weekend and in a few races this afternoon was up behind me a lot and I knew I could go a bit faster if I pushed a little more,” he said.

“So, I just settled into a bit of a rhythm and then once I knew I had a gap I slowed down a bit to preserve my destroyed tyre.”

While Sissis claimed the victory, Warrnambool’s Collins secured second place with Mount Gambier’s Dallas Skeer rounding out the podium as well as breaking track records over the weekend.

In the Master of Mac Park consolation race Sandra Malatesta arrived home in first position from Daniel Spendlove, with Rob O’Brien in third.

Samuel Pezzetta finished in first in the lightweight master class from Cooper Roundtree and Tayla Relph.

There was plenty of competition in the sidecar final, but as the chequered flag waved it was Grant Howarth and Scott Deslands who crossed the line first ahead of Alan Smith and Ryan D’Aniello with Tom Shanks and Rebecca Boggiano in third.

The junior class showed the crowd they could race just as hard as the top tier riders, with Ryder Gilbert securing the win from Rikki Henry and Seth Dellow.

Mount Gambier local Dallas Skeer was all smiles when he claimed the super sport section with a strong performance ahead of Declan Carberry and Jayden Plowman.

In the pre-modern/naked bike section Dwyane Tosen crossed the line in front of Jayden Plowman with Ron Crane rounding out the podium finish.
