Mac Park mastered

The Master of Mac Park road races delivered plenty of excitement, with close racing and large fields throughout the weekend.

After close battles in the Superbike rounds, the Master of Mac Park feature race was expected to be a tight duel between three-time winner William Strugnell and young gun Declan Carberry.

In the end, experience played out and Strugnell managed to hold off Carberry and join an elite group of riders to have won the crown four times.

His victory was all the more special as his son Jai Strugnell won the junior Master of Mac Park, making it the first time a father-son combination has been victorious.

The consolation feature race was won by the barest of margins, with William Downie holding off Chris Duffy by a tenth of a second.

Local Aaron Rigby finished a fine third.

With 13 sidecars entered, racing was predictably fierce in the battle of the chairs.

Local Stephen Jones and Sam Gittus finished a close second behind Michael Alton and Dave Rumble, with the experienced pairing of Grant Howarth and Scott Deslandes placing third.

Sam Pezzetta won the Lightweight Master of Mac from Tara Morrison and Ryder Gilbert.

With the successful running of the club’s main race now done and dusted, all eyes will be on the SA Historic Championships, which will be held December 29-31.
