From a breeding point of view, Bagged Fury certainly did not lack anything in experience when he lined up for his sixth race start in last Thursday’s Winning Post Supplies Maiden Stake (305 metres) at Tara Raceway.
The son of Filthy Phantom and Bottled Fury quickly found the front from box one before hanging on to defeat Rusty Wheels – not as slowly away as the previous week – by a half-length in 18.19 seconds.
Bagged Fury is raced by Langhorne Creek breeder-owner-trainer Tony Hinrichsen and was his first success at the Mount Gambier track since having accumulated six winners back at the end of February.
With 345 starts, Filthy Phantom is credited as the Australian record holder for the most number of races contested.
His last race was actually at Tara Raceway on April 27, 2023 – two days prior to his seventh birthday.
All told, the son of Lochinvar Marlow and Ruby Swift won 38 races and ran 124 minor placings.
Bottled Fury, a December 2017 whelping by Barcia Bale out of Destini Firebird, raced on 166 occasions for 10 wins and 52 minor placings.
“Well, with his sire and dam having raced on a total of 511 occasions, if nothing else this litter should be around for some time,” said Hinrichsen.
Moe Them Down picked the right race to open this year’s winning account when successful in the Produce Store Fast Forward TG1-4W final (400 m) which carried a first prize of $1065.
Nice work if you can get it on a time-graded day.
Owned by Mick McSorley and trained at Moorak by Jason Newman, the son of Orson Allen and Wynburn Geri led all the way from box seven for a 1½ length win over Aston Boeing in 23.23 seconds.
The monthly Fast Forward series over 400 metres kicked off with a win in January by Captain Rosie in 23.12 seconds for trainer David Peckham.
In February, Lakeview Heather was successful for Tracie Price in 23.17 seconds.
Then followed Myola Dusk (Annette Kampman) in 23.68 seconds, Lady Nitrous (Melissa Freitag) 23.35 seconds and in May it was Paul Cusack’s Quantum Master in 23.22 seconds.
Warringah Bale, now on his fifth trainer, has found his way down to Mount Gambier and David Peckham’s Allendale East kennels.
Owned at Murray Bridge by Becc Weinert, the son of Fernando Bale and Parsec Bale was having his fourth start for Peckham when gaining a start as a reserve in the Greg Martlew Autos TG5+W Stake (512 m).
But the Elysia Bartholomew trained Devilish Child looked to have set Warringah Bale a near-on impossible task when opening up a huge break mid-race.
And even when approaching the home turn the tearaway leader looked to have enough in hand to see out the race.
On the line, though, the red fawn dog dug deep for a head win in 29.88 seconds.
The win came at start number 104 and brought up his first for Peckham and eleventh overall.
It was also the first leg of a running double for the trainer with Classy Shot scoring a solid win by 1¾ lengths over Magic Tom in the Progreyhoundtips.com TG1-4W Stake (512 m).
Glencoe trainer Dean Fennell brought up his first win with Just Paddy when the son of Paddy Whacker and Miss Freelove won his third race overall in the Gambier Vets TG1-4W Stake (400m).
Well boxed in the eight, the black dog was always on the pace before taking up the running off the back and then finishing strongly for a 3½ length win over Bungaloo Bruiser in 23.49 seconds.
Fennell took over the training of two-race winner Just Paddy from Tracie Price in November last year.
But it would be another 27 runs before the dog opened his winning account for his new trainer.
“As far as Just Paddy was concerned it had been a case of me taking him or Tracie placing him in the Greyhounds As Pets program.It’s been a while for my first win to come along with him but he’s been a good ‘bread and butter’ dog,” he said.
