Finals A – Mundulla v Penola
Mundulla will take on Penola on Sunday at Nangwarry in the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League elimination final.
Heading into this game both sides finished with the same record of 6-2.
Last time these sides met it was a close one with the Tigers coming away with a thrilling 11 point win back in round 3.
The Eagles suffered another loss the week later to Kyby but since then they have been on a tear, ripping off five straight wins to close out the home and away season.
Mundulla have been a bit shaky, ending the season 3-2 with the two losses coming from the top two teams in North and Kyby.
With this game being an elimination match the stakes will be very high as these are two very good and competitive teams.
For this match I think the Eagles will pull off the win and live to fight another day.
Kybybolite v North Gambier
Kybybolite and North Gambier will again face off in the qualifying final at Nangwarry.
Last week it was a thrilling match between these sides with Kyby getting the eight point win and keeping their undefeated streak alive while finishing as minor premiers.
These two sides have been the bench mark all season and have been the two clear favourites for the flag.
As both teams have a long range of talent this match should be another close one like last week’s encounter.
As this is a qualifying final the stakes are not as high as the losing side will get another chance but because it is finals the pressure will be raised.
Kyby will be looking to avoid the same mistakes Mundulla made last season as they too were undefeated going into finals but then lost in straight sets.
Given how consistently dominant Kyby has been this season it’s hard not to tip them in this match up.
However, I do not think it will be a walk in the park as North will be looking to take revenge after their round nine defeat.
Finals B – Millicent v Kongorong
Millicent will take on Kongorong this Sunday in the qualifying final in Nangwarry.
Both sides finished with the same record of 3-5, with the Saints finishing just one spot higher on the ladder.
These sides last met in round six when Millicent won by 39 points.
The two teams have been a bit inconsistent this season as they have both had their ups and downs.
Millicent has been the much better defensive side, only allowing 242 points this season compared to Kongorong’s 340 points.
As the Saints have not had the biggest of win totals this season their defence will have to be on point to help them get the win if they are not able to put a lot of points on the board.
I think given how they have been playing overall this season the Saints will get the win in this match.
Casterton Sandford v South Gambier
Casterton Sandford and South Gambier will face off in Nangwarry on Sunday in the B finals elimination match.
Heading into round nine the Dees were in a good position to play in the qualifying final but after a tough loss they dropped all the way down to eighth and now face elimination.
These sides met all the way back in round one where the Cats got the
win over South by 82 points in Casterton.
Both sides finished the season with the same record of 2-6.
The Dees will be looking for their captain Chole Newton to step up and have a big game. Newton has been a key piece in South’s success this season with her goal scoring abilities, kicking 17 for the season.
The Cats will look to Ree Humphries and Indi Longhurst to have an impact on the match. Both have been solid players all season and appeared consistently in the best players for the team.
Casterton’s experience should help them get over the line against a younger South side.
