For two weeks now very little has separated visiting greyhounds Buddy Guy and Hello I’m Jade, trained by Tony Rasmussen and Shelley Trengove respectively, in their clashes in a heat and final of a grade five series over 512 metres at Tara Raceway.
First, in a heat it was Buddy Guy who opened up a seemingly winning break down the back but was unable to hold out Hello I’m Jade, the black bitch getting the nod by a nose in 29.83 seconds.
Then, in last week’s final Buddy Guy once again set up the same scenario when charging down the back straight with a similar sort of break to that of the previous week over Hello I’m Jade who was looking for her fifth consecutive win.
This time, though, it was Buddy Guy who was able to hold on, winning by a neck in a best of day 29.97 seconds for the Terry Solier-managed Tsols Tips Syndicate, on board with Razza Racing for the past two years.
Purchased for $8000, the beautifully bred son of Fernando Bale and Erelda Bale, a litter sister to the million dollar stayer Fanta Bale, has now won 11 races since transferring to Gifford Hill.
The win was the first leg of a double for the Rasmussen kennel, wife Lisa successful with What A Wish in the Trackside Meats Stake (400m).
Having her first start at Tara Raceway, the pint-sized 24 kilograms only offspring of the Dyna Villa x Dellbrezie mating led all the way from box eight to defeat Nitro Yap by 21⁄2 lengths in the Trackside Meats Stake (400m) in a time of 23.20 seconds.
Dellbrezie, a 720 metres winner at Wentworth Park, retired with eight wins from 25 starts, her last start in February 2014 resulting in a 10 lengths win at Sandown Park over 515 metres in a best of day 29.32 seconds.
Meanwhile, for the Lewiston-based Trengoves – Clint, his wife Shelley and his son Harry – their day ended with a family treble when Flying Chopper, My Boy Bean and Bobbie Buble were all successful.
The Shelley Trengove-trained Flying Chopper – the son of Worm Burner x Batty Allen having only his third start – led all the way to win the Greyhound-Data.com Maiden Stake (277m) by 11⁄2 lengths over Cairnlea Jeff in 16.67 seconds.
Raced by Clayton Trengove of Broken Hill, the blue dog’s racing name came about due to the fact that he is missing half an ear!
My Boy Bean, a 15-race winner of more than $50,000, found winning form again for Clint Trengove when defeating Saint Maddie by 11⁄2 lengths in a tidy 35.38 seconds in the Winmore Greyhound Kennels Mixed Stake (600m).
For the four-year-old son of Outa Credit x Big Girl Gerald the win was his first since July at Tara Raceway where he strung together a couple of 732 metres distance wins.
Harry Trengove’s Bobbie Buble, tackling the 512 metres journey for only the second time in her 25-start career, had no trouble in running out the journey when leading all the way to defeat Hot Desert Storm by 33⁄4 lengths in the Swallow Drive Meats Stake in a tidy 30.27 seconds.
Bobbie Buble, who has now won four races for Trengove, is a daughter of Barcia Bale and Getty Bale, a winner of 10 races over 515 metres at Angle Park.
