Mayor vacates chamber

Robe Mayor Lisa Ruffell and ward councillor Marcia Dening followed due process and vacated the meeting chamber for two minutes at a recent meeting.

The pair are associated with the Robe RSL which has long been granted a 100% rate rebate by the Robe District Council.

The arrangement is in recognition of the RSL making its building and grounds available to a number of community groups.

When the Robe RSL request for a $2400 rate rebate was made this year, it was supported by the staff.

Nevertheless, Mayor Ruffell and Cr Dening still declared a conflict of interest.

Deputy Mayor Cr Nick Brown took the chair and the meeting promptly endorsed the Robe RSL request.
