McKechnie scores narrow victory

Afield of 29 people contested the June monthly medal competition last Wednesday at Attamura in sunny, but cool conditions.

With half the field scoring in the nett 70s, competition was strong but it was Betty McKechnie’s day when she returned to the clubhouse with nett 68 to take home the June monthly medal.

Playing off a 27 handicap, McKechnie turned after nine holes with 49 before completing the back nine with 46, which included a birdie on the last hole.

One shot further back was long hitter Heather Teakle who claimed the runner-up  prize, finishing with 93 off the stick for nett 69.

Di Norman played exactly to her handicap finishing with a nett 73 for third prize.

The putting competition was won by McKechnie with 29 putts, while the pro shot was won by Bernie Jennings on the eighth hole.

Karen Forster won the second shot in A Grade on the 17th hole, Norman claimed the prize in B Grade and Vicki Clark was successful in C Grade for their second shot.

Faye Mainwaring and Andrea Pegler both scored a nett 74, while Carol Davis scored a nett 75 and Bev Pedlar, Di O’Donnell and Vicki Clark all scored nett 76.

Saturday’s wintry conditions could only entice 11 people out to the course and this week’s stroke round was won by the event’s sponsor, Marie Douglas, with nett 79.

A par on the challenging 12th hole was her highlight for the day.

Runner-up for the event was Mainwaring with nett 80.

While O’Donnell won the  putting competition with 31 putts in some- what difficult conditions.

Ball run down  winners were Helen McIntyre, O’Donnell, Penne Saffin, Bernie Jennings and Janina Morrison.

Sharran Waters was the successful pro shot winner on the eighth hole.
