Medical centre lifeline

The Robe District Council has taken a step forward in ensuring the community’s continued access to high-quality health and allied services, with the release of an Expression of Interest for tenancy at the Robe Medical Centre.

With the current lease due to expire on July 1, 2025, the council has resolved to enter a monthly holding-over arrangement to maintain service continuity while inviting providers to submit proposals for future use of the facility.

Mayor Lisa Ruffell said the process presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen health services in Robe and meet the evolving needs of the community.

“We’re aware of increasing community concern regarding the challenges in accessing consistent medical care, particularly due to doctor shortages,” Mayor Ruffell said.

“That’s exactly why council is taking proactive steps to explore long-term options and ensure continuity and improvement of service delivery for Robe residents.”

The Robe Medical Centre, centrally located on Smillie Street, is a purpose-built facility offering flexible tenancy options – from single consulting rooms to potential full-facility use.

Council chief executive Nat Traeger said the EOI allows existing service providers, as well as new entrants, to submit proposals for delivering medical and associated services in the township.

“Council is proud to support a model that keeps the doors open to innovation and collaboration,” she said.

“Whether you’re an established provider or looking to expand into the region, this is a fantastic opportunity. I look forward to discussing this opportunity with interested people.”

Interested parties are encouraged to review the EOI documentation, which will include facility plans and submission criteria. Council will welcome submissions from single operators, multidisciplinary practices, or health partnerships.

The EOI closes on May 30, 2025.
