Membership questioned

Primary Industries Minister Clare Scriven came under sustained questioning in State Parliament last week from the Opposition regarding her membership of the exclusive Qantas Chairman’s Lounge.

Upper House Opposition Leader Dr Nicola Centofanti directed four questions to Minister Scriven while fellow Liberal frontbencher Michelle Lensink posed a further three.

In reply, Minister Scriven conceded she had made an error, rectified it and otherwise complied with all necessary reporting obligations.

“I am a member of the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge,” Minister Scriven said.

“It was brought to my attention, through a recent media report that I had accidentally omitted to include that on my register of interests for 2023.

“As soon as I became aware of that I rectified the situation by advising the Clerk and requesting that it be added to my register.”

There are Qantas Chairman’s Lounges at six major Australian airports and all have a bar, restaurant, reading area, private rooms and large individual bathroom facilities.

Free membership is offered at the discretion of Qantas and includes senior politicians, public servants, business identities and celebrities.
