One of the Penola Football Club’s favourite sons Adam “Hoggett” Merrett played his 300th game for the Eagles on the weekend.
Merrett took to the field against Bordertown on Saturday with his career one of the most decorated seen in country footy.
He started his senior career as a nuggety youngster one day before his 14th birthday and amazingly played Under 14s, 17s and A Grade in the same day.
Since then his career has flourished and some of his many highlights include being a three-time premiership player and coaching the 2016 premiership while winning best on ground; a member of the 2008 All Australian country side, 11 time KNTFL, nine time Zone and six time State representative.
Merrett also won the Under 19s SANFL League Medal and finished second in the Reserves SANFL Magarey Medal and currently sits 40th on the South Australian all time goal kicking leaderboard with 939.
He is a keen club person and coached the senior side since from 2014-17, serving as a committee member, former Senior Colts coach and has won the prestigious PFC Footballer of the Year award five times.
