The 2022 Mount Gambier Netball Association season ended last Saturday when a series of exciting grand finals took place at Olympic Park.
First up at 9:15am was the Under 13B grand final of Zodiacs v Vicis on Court 3, while on Court 1 was a highly anticipated match-up between Zodiacs Gold and Hobitz Blue.
The Under 13B game was a well-played out contest between the two teams and Vicis proved themselves to be fierce competitors on the court.
Zodiacs never gave up throughout the contest, however Vicis claimed the trophy 37-9 with best on court Claudia Vorwerk leading the way.
The game between Zodiacs Gold and Hobitz Blue was one where spectators could not dare to turn their eyes away as the game went into overtime.
Screaming supporters of each club cheered on as Zodiacs Gold narrowly took a 48-46 win to find themselves as the Under 15 premiers led by Sarah Miller.
At 11:15am, the Under 19 and Under 13A grand finals started and on Court 1 it was Hobitz Red and Zodiacs playing in the older grade.
Both teams had been dominant forces in their grade for the entire season and Hobitz Red brought it all out to get the gold.
Zodiacs fell behind by half time but when the second half arrived, they caught up to their opponents.
But in the end Hobitz Red took away the win 48-40 thanks to the efforts of Ella Cruise.
For the Under 13A flag, Zodiacs and Saints faced off.
It was a surprise match up as Intruders had the position of first place but were knocked out by third place Saints.
Zodiacs had scored themselves a ticket straight into the final when they beat Intruders in the qualifying final.
Saints came out victorious with a 10-goal win against Zodiacs, 32-22.
Saints player Aynslee Hayman was best on ground.
In the B2, it was the undefeated Amazons up against Saints.
Amazons have been one of the toughest teams all year who put everything on the court and had a real crack.
Cheers were heard from all sides of Olympic Park when Amazons took home the premiership against Saints, 26-17.
Bethany Hille was the top performer for Amazons.
The A2 game was a highly anticipated decider where Hobitz put up a battle against Intruders.
After Hobitz’s one-goal win against the same opposition in the qualifying final, supporters of the club were sure in for a treat.
Hobitz dominated from the get-go and Intruders were right there behind them at multiple points.
It was a tough fight for both teams, but in the end Hobitz got the win 53-39 despite Alison Jones putting in a best on court effort for Intruders.
In the B1 match, Hobitz Red and Amazons were fighting for the title, but Hobitz Red got the win 52-36.
When 3pm hit, all eyes fell on Court 1 ahead of the most anticipated game of the season.
Ladder leaders Intruders met reigning premiers Hobitz in the 2022 MGNA A Grade grand final.
Both teams were quick on their feet for the match, but it was Intruders who did not make any costly mistakes duringg the match.
It was almost a near-perfect performance from Cath Dycer’s team, but Hobitz did not once put their heads down.
Kym Stewart knew exactly how to play in her position of centre in the game, while both Cindy Launer (who joined in the second quarter) and Kellie Wallace (who joined the third quarter) played excellent games in defence.
Christie McCourt and Kate Bizsko were standouts for Intruders, as these two players knew how to read the play which helped Intruders secure their win for the season by 22 goals.
