The Millicent Golf Club has come up trumps in a prestigious interclub competition at the Mount Burr course over the holiday long weekend.
Spearheaded by outstanding play by Ken McIntyre and Bronny Clarke, Millicent won the third and final leg of the annual tri-challenge involving the Millicent, Loxton and Blackwood clubs.
The three clubs have competed for the trophy for around three decades with competitions hosted on a rotatating basis on the March, June and October long weekends.
Millicent Golf Club president Mark Pilmore said his host club was only a handful of points off the pace after the two opening weekends and finished strongly on the home course to retain the trophy it won in 2020.
“We had 84 in the field on Saturday and this increased to 96 on Sunday,” Mr Pilmore said.
“The final event was a sit-down dinner for 110 on Sunday night.
“We had our usual public holiday stableford competition on Monday.”
Mr Pilmore said about a dozen of the out-of-town golfers camped in their caravans on-site.
The tri-challenge was founded around 30 years ago by recently-deceased Millicent Golf Club stalwart Graham “Arch” Sunderland.
