Millicent Show brings thrills and spills

The Millicent showgrounds was a hive of activity over the weekend with the success of the 146th Millicent AH&P Show being attributed to iconic and new amusements and attractions.

Accurate gate-takings have not yet been made available, however the committee was extremely happy and anticipated a high number of showgoers attended.

The absence of the popular motocross action did not heavily impact on gate-takings, according to the organising committee.

The change of drawcard event on Friday night and sunshine was a welcome relief across all three days which helped keep the number of ticket sales up.

Friday night entertainment saw the return of the speed shearing followed by local cover band Incarnation playing live, sideshow alley amusements and fireworks lit up the Gordon Memorial Oval.

Morning cloud dispersed by the afternoon to allow for a perfect day to roam outdoors for activities, attractions and amusements.

The packed program had a variety of entertainment catered to all ages and interests.

Lawn mower racing has cemented itself as a unique drawcard event at Millicent along with the iconic demo derby hosted by the long time show patrons, the Garner family.

There was no shortage of thrill seekers with rides including the Sizzler, Ali Baba, Kamikaze, Skydiver and Hard Rock.

The primary industries of the Millicent district were represented in the yard dogs, sheep, wool, poultry and cattle competitions.

The trade exhibitors included local service clubs and organisations, as well as local eateries who showcased their food and beverages.

Returning attractions included unique vehicles and stationary engines on display, dozens of youngsters again entered the junior show person competition, and indoor exhibits showcased a variety of local talent.

Among the new attractions and activities was the Australian Bush Buddies who provided an interactive experience, as well as the children’s play zone.

Horses-in-action was the only competition to be staged over all three days.

Coinciding with the third show day was the Millicent Showgrounds Markets.

The show society committee wish to thank all who contributed to the successful running of the show including donations towards trophies, prize money and advertising.

The committee also wished to express their sincere thanks to the judges, stewards, conveners, exhibitors, schools, service clubs and other voluntary helpers, who all help to make the Millicent Show successful.
