Monster trucks launch into city

Monster trucks will be rolling into the Mount Gambier Showgrounds for Mount Gambier’s Monster Carnival from August 20 to 21.

Monster Carnival event organiser Troy Garcia said because people had been stuck inside due to COVID, the carnival was a great opportunity to get out and enjoy a live event.

There will be something for everyone, with monster trucks, amusement rides, plenty of food, motorbikes, car stunts and light-hearted entertainment throughout the afternoon.

“There’s quite a big variety of events that are happening throughout the course of the whole time the gates are open,” Mr Garcia said.

Gates open at 12pm with the event finishing just before dark and people will have the freedom to leave the event and return by obtaining an out pass.

Mr Garcia said the carnival was a new concept, as monster truck shows traditionally started in the evening and finished later at night.

“What we have come up with is an event that is more kid-friendly, because predominantly it is a children’s show,” he said.

“So we have changed the whole scope of it around and we have added amusement rides, dodgem car tracks and things like that to fill the day in.”

There will be six monster trucks at the carnival, with four of them ‘performing trucks’ and two of them ‘rides trucks’ where people can hop in and go for a few laps around the circuit.

“The ride trucks are very popular, kids really enjoy it, so that’s something that happens throughout the course of the whole time the gates are open and will continue until every last person has had a ride,” Mr Garcia said.

“You have really got the best monster trucks in Australia which are exactly the same as monster trucks that you see on television coming to this show.”

Mr Garcia said the carnival was a world-class event, with some of the best freestyle motocross riders in the world coming along and some of the best trucks that perform at leading venues.

“We just hope that bringing an event of this calibre to Mount Gambier we hope the local people get out and really support it,” Mr Garcia said.

“It will be an exciting event, it will definitely make some memories the kids will really love, cherish and remember forever.”
