Monthly medal contested

High prevailing winds meant only 14 intrepid lady golfers hit off in the August Monthly Medal competition.

Winner of the prestigious August Monthly Medal was Lady Captain, Jan Shanahan (18) with a consistent round.

She had 46 shots off the stick on the front and 47 on the back to finish up with 93 Gross and 75 Nett.

Shanahan carded four pars while the winning factor was only having 29 putts on the day.

Losing on a count-back and coming in second place was the unlucky Janina Morrision (23).

She had a great 46 off the stick front nine, but the difficult and long back nine took its toll registering 52 off the stick, while third position went to Leanne Hunt (17) with a Nett 77.

A putting competition was played in conjunction with the Monthly Medal which was won by Libby Altschwager on a countback from Jan Shanahan with 29 putts.

Once again featuring in the dispatches was Rosalie Hunt taking out the Pro Shot on the Par 3, 8th hole.

The Speciality Prizes on the day went to the 2nd Long Drive on the 1st Hole – A Grade winner was Leanne Hunt, B Grade winner Janina Morrison and C Grade winner Jill Johnson.

Because of the very small field no balls were handed out in the ball run-down.

Next Wednesday the competition of the day will be a Stableford Aggregate, which will be a three person game and sponsored by Faye Mainwaring.

Last Saturday 10 ladies competed in a Stroke competition in cold but fine weather.

First placing went to an occasional visitor from Millicent Golf Club, Mary Winser who registered 90-15-75 nett.

Winser conquered the back nine with just 42 off the stick which included five pars.

Taking out second position was Helen Gregory who carded Nett 76 with a consistent round of golf where she scored 46 on both nines.
