Mount Gambier bowls singles titles decided

The prestigious ladies and men’s singles titles have been decided at the Mount Gambier Bowls Club.

In the men’s singles championship, in a replay of last year’s decider, Jeff England made his way through to the final where he took on Tony Bowditch.

England made his way through the draw with wins over Ron Cox, Jim Farren and Greg Carpenter with Bowditch defeating David Holland, Kym Jones and Tim Radley to qualify for the final.

The final played in front of a big crowd on Friday night promised to be a great game and three hours and 33 ends later, that’s exactly what was delivered with both bowlers playing excellent draw bowls.

The lead changed several times with England looking in control leading 24-21 requiring just one shot for victory but his opponent fought back to win the next two ends to trail 24-23.

Bowditch played two superb bowls to be holding game, but England played the game deciding bowl running the jack into the ditch to claim his first singles title at the Mount Gambier Bowls Club.
