Mount Gambier netballers mix it with top SA Country squads

The Mount Gambier Netball Association made a return to the SA Country Championships in Adelaide after a nine year absence.

Thirty-two netballers, three coaches, three managers, three umpires and a support crew of parents and supporters made the journey to take part.
13 & Under
The 13 & Under team consisted of 10 dedicated, inspiring and excited team members.

From the commencement of the tournament each player came together component and were invested for the challenge.

Moving towards the championship the girls made the most of each training giving 110% and willingness to increase all skills and fundamentals to achieve full potential in readiness for this competition.

The coaches were inspired to see the girls compete hard within a competition out of their comfort and are excited to see the futures of these girls in a sport they love.
15 & Under
The MGNA U15 Squad team was made up of 11 players from five representative clubs who were excited for the challenge and eager to take part.

The nerves settled soon into the first game early on Saturday morning, and the players needed to quickly try and adapt to different styles and speed of play.

Each game brought challenges, and opportunities for development which were readily accepted.

At the end of nine games over two days of play, the MGNA side was unable to secure a win, but the resilience and determination continued to impress.

Each player learned something new from this experience, and all showed some individual growth and improvement.

The scores will be remembered for a short time, but the memories, funny stories and friendships will last a lot longer
17 & Under
In some tough competition the MGNA under 17 girls refused to let any loss keep them down and out.

With plenty of versatility throughout the court the side took plenty of opportunities to let each and every player experience a taste of Country Champs.

Sarah Miller proved that height is not a problem when in goals, Felicity Kelly was thrown all over the court when needed and showed how well she can adjust.

Ayla Greene did not shy away in goals with some real body on body defence thrown her way.

Izzy Forrest put her body on the line wherever she was on court, height proved nothing when thrown in defence against those tall goalies.

Ruby Slotegraaf gave the team drive and height in the mid court.

Jess Douglas and Kelsey Boneham moved in the circle or midcourt when needed without fuss and the team was thankful for their speed and dedication the whole weekend.

Caelin Hayman was a late entry to the team but proved she was a crucial part of the defence line all weekend.

Lauren Agnew was strong at stopping drives and always got hands to any loose balls.

Charlotte Dowdell had her work cut out against some super tall goalies but her amazing skill to read play saw many pick offs outside the circle.

Nevae Brooksby led our defence for most of the weekend with her strong holds, rebounds and always with a second effort through the midcourt to help drive the ball down.

It was a huge weekend for these girls that proved a huge experience and learning curve with some exceptional talent around the courts.
